A Steve Robertson strike in first half added time was enough for the Worthians to take all 3 points at Silver Street on Saturday.
The visitors started brightly with much attacking intent but without testing home keeper Mike Searle but they did come close on 21 mins when, following a corner, Leon Morrison blocked a home clearance only to see the ball cannon back off the home crossbar. A typical Darren Jeffries run saw Searle make a decent stop from his low shot with Highworth keeper Connor Johns making a similar save moments later.
The home side had a goal disallowed for offside midway through the half with visiting captain Ryan Morgan then heading another seemingly goal bound effort away for a corner.
The excellent Jacob Davidge saw his low drive almost creep under Searle only 40 mins before the only goal arrived in first half added time when Mbunga fed Robertson in the box and his 16 yard effort beat Searle although the keeper may think he could have got more than one hand to it. Johns ensured a HT lead for Highworth with a fine tip over save as Willand tried to find an immediate equaliser but HT was reached with the Worthians ahead.
Johns made two superb stops in the opening 15 mins of the second half as Highworth were pushed all the way by the home side. Resolute defending was required through the second period as the visitors were camped in their own half for lengthy periods.
Man of the Match Jacob Davidge ensured all 3 points would return to Wiltshire with a superb last ditch tackle on the 6 yard line minutes from the end and there was relief in the visitors camp when the referee ended the game after 5 minutes of added time.
FT 1-0 Highworth.
