Highworth made it 4 wins in a row with a single goal victory at the SaveOnTyres Stadium on Wednesday evening in the BetVictor Southern League Challenge Cup.
In a rather low key affair the game was settled in the 60th minute when Sean Wood converted a penalty after Sol Pryce was fouled in the box. This came shortly after the visitors wasted a glorious opportunity when Sacha Tong round keeper Connor Johns but managed only to find the side netting.
The game had started with the home side on the front foot as Ralph Graham dragged a shot across goal when well placed and Cory King saw an effort pushed aside by Archie Watts in the Mangotsfield goal.
In a game of few chances Jacob Davidge cleared off the home goal line after sloppy defending allowed the visitors a shot on target. King then failed to be Watts when clear on goal and HT arrived at 0-0.
The penalty apart the second half followed a similar pattern with few efforts on target although Watts did well to push away a Davidge effort on 88 minutes and Johns saving a close range effort at the other end in added time.
Back to the league on Saturday when Melksham Town visit us for a 3.00 pm ko.
A fifth consecutive win would be the best run since we entered the Southern League last season.
The club will be open from noon as normal for food, drinks, licensed bar an TV sport.
