Ten man Highworth bring a point home from Winchester City
By Derek Lloyd
Winchester City 1-1 Highworth Town
Trailing by a goal to nil when Toumani Sidibi was brandished with a straight red card on 74 minutes for what the referee deemed a reckless challenge on Jamie Barron, it seemed the visitors faced an uphill struggle to bring any sort of result back to Wiltshire.
As shown in recent weeks however the team battled on and equalised on 81 minutes when the referee awarded them a penalty for a push on Ryan Woods as a corner was taken. Ash Edenborough put away the spot kick with ease.
The home side had taken the lead on 44 minutes when a Ryan Stanners back pass to Connor Johns was under-hit and Oli Bailey nipped in to chip over the onrushing Johns. This was a little harsh on Highworth who, despite conceding much possession, rarely looked like conceding although Jamie Barron had rattled the bar from 30 yards for Winchester City shortly before Bailey's strike.
Ryan Pryce, in the Winchester goal, did push an Edenborough shot around the post just before the equaliser came but after which it was the home side who dominated the final few minutes. Johns did brilliantly to block two close range efforts in added time; the second of which appeared to be going in off of the keeper until captain Wayne Turk appeared on the goal line to magnificently head clear.
Manger Jeff Roberts was happy with a point but not the general overall performance and will be concerned that the exciting Sidibi will now miss 3 games. With Jordan Roberts and Rory Sproule still out with injuries from the Evesham game 2 weeks ago it will be interesting to see how this small squad copes over the next few weeks.
After three tough away games the next three are at home.
