End of season victory for the Worthians
By Derek Lloyd
Highworth Town 4 Fleet Town 2
After opening the league season in August with a home win it ended in similar fashion as Highworth beat relegated Fleet Town at the Save On Tyres Stadium.
In blustery conditions the home side went ahead on 13 minutes when Edenborough flicked on a left wing corner and Mbunga slotted home from close range. Chris Taylor then saw a long range effort tipped around the post in a first half that produced few chances.
A flurry of goals in the final third of the game then at least brightened up the game for the 123 souls braving the cold wind.
Dismal Highworth defending on 58 minutes allowed Enow Ojong through on goal to equaliser after which Dan Drewett replaced John Else for the home side. The Drewett effect took hold on 69 minutes as he flicked on a corner allowing Wayne Turk to put Highworth back ahead. This lead lasted 3 minutes as more sloppy work in midfield allowed Bradley Wilson a run on goal and he duly beat Connor Johns, 2-2.
It was 3-2 a minute later as Drewett provided a telling cross allowing Swindon Town loanee Jordan Young to score his 6th goal in 8 appearances. Highworth's Leon Morrision saw red just before the end for a shirt pull as a forward broke clear on goal following yet another mistake in midfield but the game was sealed when MoM Drewett,s shot from 18 yards somehow squirmed under the keeper on 93 minutes.
So we end the season in 14th place with 14 wins, 8 draws and 16 losses in out first season.
A season report will appear here over the next few days.
