Season double completed over Thatcham Town
By Derek Lloyd
Thatcham Town 2-3 Highworth Town
In thoroughly miserable conditions and on a difficult pitch, Highworth completed their first league double of the season, and a fourth consecutive win, with this 3-2 victory.
Highworth went two-up early on through Wayne Turk (7 minutes) and TJ Bohane (15 minutes). The first coming after Bohane crossed from the left and skipper Turk was unmarked 12 yards out for his fifth goal of the season. TJ Bohane's goal came after Ash Edenborough flicked on a Connor Johns clearance with the forward coolly lobbing the advancing home keeper, Rackley.
The home side made it 1-2 on 20 minutes when Highworth failed to clear a corner and Jeacock slotted home past Johns. The remainder of the first half was fairly even and half time was reached with no addition to the score.
Rory Sproule put the visitors 3 - 1 ahead on 50 minutes with a fine low finish from 18 yards following a corner. Cooper-Clarke rattled the Highworth crossbar from close range six minutes later before Johns produced the save of the game from the same player on the hour mark .
It seemed the wind, which favoured Thatcham in the first half, was doing so again in the second and it needed much resolute defending to keep the home side out. The arrears were reduced on 76 minutes when Alexander fired home from 30 yards. Despite the home side then bombarding Highworth's defence with numerous crosses and shots the visitors held on thanks to numerous blocks and a couple of goal line clearances.
As last week Manager Roberts was delighted with the result and the effort put in to ensure that his team's unbeaten run continues.
With the next four games all against sides above Highworth in the league there are further stern tests to come but with the on-field attitude shown in the last four games, positive results against Winchester City, Blackfield & Langley, Yate and Bideford are more than possible.
