Battling win for Highworth Town
By Derek Lloyd
Highworth Town 1-0 Street
The home side were without six regulars today including all of last week's back four as a result of injuries, non-availability and suspension and so youngsters, Liam Haines and Frankie Grieveson both started with "veteran" Ross Adams also recalled.
Given the above this was an outstanding result against a very decent Street side with whom the Worthians drew 2-2 earlier in the season.
The only goal came on 10 minutes when Darren Jefferies curled in a superb free kick from 20 yards. For the remainder of the first half Street were on the front foot and could have been at least level on half time having had a goal disallowed for a tight but fair offside decision, with a couple of other efforts narrowly missing the target as well.
The second half followed a similar pattern with the visitors having territorial advantage but unable to test home keeper Connor Johns.
Ash Edenborough was twice thwarted in one-on-one situations with Street keeper Liam Kingston but it was Johns who kept Highworth's lead intact with two fine blocks as chances came and went for Street.
A couple of goal line clearances for Highworth kept the visitors out whose cause was not helped by the sending-off of Ben Amghar for kicking out at Callum Parsons.
Our match sponsors, Liz and Simon Cheshire, gave the MoM award to Connor Johns although everyone put in a real shift today.
Happy Manager Jeff Roberts was candid after the game and accepted Street probably were a shade unlucky but was delighted with a third successive win following the New Year's Day capitulation against Evesham.
Next Saturday sees a visit to former Hellenic League rivals Thatcham Town.
