Derby win for the Worthians
By Derek Lloyd
Highworth Town 3-1 Melksham Town
A big win for Highworth Town on Saturday at the SaveOnTyres Stadium as they overcame Melksham Town 3-1 in the EvoStik Southern League Division One South.
The home side got off to a great start when in the second minute Melksham made a mess of trying to clear a Chris Taylor corner and Ash Edenborough fired home from six yards out.
The lead was short lived however as Melksham equalised in the tenth minute when Warren Maidment's header from a Chris Allen free kick looped over Connor Johns into the top corner.
Melksham then had most of the possession without really creating any clear cut chances and HT was reached at 1-1.
The second half continued in much the same vein although Highworth looked dangerous on the break.
Connor Johns made a fine block at his near post and saved well again when Brad Norris was put through.
Toumani Sidibi, Callum Parsons and Edenborough were all a handful for the Melksham defence to manage as Highworth mounted several breakaways upfield. Having conceded a couple of free kicks on the edge of their penalty box which came to nothing a third was awarded against Melksham and Sidibi stepped up and found the bottom corner of the net in the 86th minute.
With 4 minutes plus added time to go, it looked as if there was to be a tense finish but on 88 minutes Edenborough surged into the penalty box again and was unceremoniously brought down. The same player got up and sent the keeper the wrong way from the spot to score his second of the game and ensure the three points were Highworth's.
Our Match Sponsors, Steve Boore and Tom Evans awarded the Man of the Match to Leon Morrison.
Highworth are now 7th in the table with a visit to Mangotsfield next upon Saturday.
