Narrow defeat to Cinderford Town
By Derek Lloyd
Highworth Town 0-1 Cinderford Town
Not only did the Worthians suffer defeat at the SaveOnTyres Stadium today but their lengthy injury list increased with Matty Grabe taken to hospital early on with a suspected fractured cheekbone and Ryan Morgan limping off in the second half with an ankle injury.
The game was settled on 26 minutes when Dan MacDonald converted a penalty following a foul by Wayne Turk. In truth the visitors could have been further ahead at half time had keeper Connor Johns not brilliantly diverted a close range effort onto a post and away to safety.
Highworth's best chance of the game came a minute after the break when Callum Ferguson shaved the post with a header from 6 yards out.
Johns then produced another fine save from a close range header before Matt MacDonald struck the post for the visitors.
Highworth defended well and rode their luck at times against a decent Cinderford side and finished the game strongly, Ash Edenborough was brought down perilously close to the penalty box but the officials saw the infringement as being just outside and the free kick came to nothing.
With injuries continuing and suspensions kicking in, manager Jeff Roberts may have his work cut out when it comes to team selection for Wednesday's home cup fixture with Swindon Supermarine and Saturday's league visit to Bristol Manor Farm.
Everyone at the club sends Matty Grabe their best wishes for a speedy recovery.
