Narrow defeat for Highworth Town in Wilts FA Senior Cup
By Derek Lloyd
Highworth Town 1-2 Swindon Supermarine
Two late goals secured Supermarine's victory after the home side had taken the lead in the 48th minute. Toumani Sidibi, available for this fixture despite being part way through a league ban, slotted past Will Henry after latching onto to a ball over the top of the visitors' back line.
Supermarine almost equalised immediately when Connor Thompson's lone range effort struck the inside of a post and rebounded to safety.
Highworth's defence, with keeper Connor Johns again in excellent form, held firm until the 78th minute when Connor Mc Donald converted a Stuart Fleetwood cross. A minute later roles were reversed when Fleetwood fired home from a McDonald cross. Highworth then pushed players forward but were unable to find an equaliser.
The first half saw Supermarine generally dominate possession with Johns making two fine early saves. As Highworth got into the game Ash Edenborough found the side netting from the corner of the 6 yard box and Tom Cole fired over after a goalmouth scramble following a corner.
On the stroke of half time Ryan Stanners made a goal-line clearance for the home side and half time was reached scoreless.
This was a decent game played on an excellent pitch on a relatively warm November evening and having shuffled his team around Manger Roberts must be pleased with the performance all over the pitch. It is appropriate however to congratulate 17 year old Leon Morrison on his excellent full debut for Highworth and to welcome back to the club Tom Cole who performed admirably alongside Leon in the back four.
