Brimscombe & Thrupp Res 1-4 Highworth Town Res
By Mike Markham
A decent result!
After not having a game for two weekends the Ressies returned to action on a cold Tuesday night away at Brimscombe & Thrupp.
They started the game brightly and it took only five minutes for the Worthians to open up the scoring when Jordan Clark set Jamie Sheppard through on goal to coolly slip the ball past the advancing keeper.
With only 11 minutes on the clock, Highworth were two-up when a free kick from Billy Aldrich was glanced into the Brimscombe net by Aaron Dale.
The lead didn’t stay at two for long as on only 14 minutes, Brimscombe pulled a goal back when a ball whipped in from the left was tapped in at the far post for 2-1.
The game was somewhat scruffy from then on with both sides doing well to play any football on a boggy pitch that was beginning to freeze, and there were no more goals in the first half.
The second half carried on in much the same vein with both sides really cancelling each other out, but with 73 minutes on the clock, Highworth got their third and broke the hearts of their opponents when Aaron Dale burst through on goal and coolly lifted his finish over the keeper for his second of the game.
With seven minutes remaining, the Worthians capped off a decent away victory when a stray back pass from a Brimscombe defender only found the feet of Max Slinn and he took his chance brilliantly, stroking the ball past the keeper on what was now a very bobbly pitch to complete a 4-1 victory.
