Langley 3-1 Highworth Town Reserves
No luck for the Worthians
By Chris Ayres
The reserves traveled down the M4 to play Langley in the Perpetua Press Floodlit Cup.
After a long troubled drive there, we started slowly although a long ball very early on set Clint Lomax away one-on-one with the keeper, who maked a fine save, but Lomax was first to the rebound and as he was set to roll the ball into the empty he was was crudely up-ended for a stonewall penalty to everyone in the ground except the referee.
Much to the amazement of both sides' coaching staff he has waved play on. Things didn’t get any better for us in the 1st half after 20 mins we conceded a very sloppy goal gifting the hosts the lead.
With us not really at the races the hosts got a deserved second goal right on the stroke of half time. After some strong words from the management team the boys were much better in the second half and the game was a lot more even with both sides playing attacking football.
The next goal was going to be important and after a scramble in the Langley box top scorer Max Slinn was on hand to fire into the top corner and so with and with 20 minutes left we were back in the game.
The game continued end to end but it was Langley who finally killed the game off with not long left after some more sloppy defending from a set piece led to them scoring a third and final goal. The game finished 3-1 to the hosts but surely would have been different had decisions gone our way. Big plus though was new signing Leon Morrison, who was superb and is sure to have a big future at the club!!
