Pre-season defeat at Malmesbry Vics

By Derek Lloyd

Malmesbury Vics 3 Highworth Town 2

Highworth went down by the odd goal in 5 last night at Malmesbury.
In an entertaining game home keeper, and former Worthian, Josh Langley kept his side level with several decent stops in the first half before the home side went ahead through Matty Jenkins following a cross from Shane Bumphrey.
HT 1-O Malmesbury Vics
Matty Jenkins made it 2-0 direct from a 25 yard free kick shortly after HT before the visitors began to dominate. Dan Drewett hit the home bar from close range before Embunga pulled a goal back and further chances then went begging. Against the run of play Malmesbury went 3-1 up on 74 minutes when Meare in the Highworth goal parried a shot from Joe Williamson only to see the ball re-bound in off of Sam Morris.
Drewett made it 3-2 on 87 minutes and he and Embunga had further efforts saved before the referee blew for full time.
A good work out for all as both sides look to finalise their squads for the upcoming season.
Thanks to Malmesbury for the fixture and hospitality.
