A second win in 3 days put the Worthians back on top of the Hellenic League Premier division with their final game to come at the Elms on Monday when Thatcham Town (currently 2nd) come to Wiltshire.
In last night's game a decent encounter saw Windsor, on their first visit to the Elms, throw everything at the home team in the final 10 minutes, much as they did in the game at Windsor, only for some great goalkeeping and defending holding them out.
Windsor went close on 4 mins when Bowles fired across goal and even closer 5 mins later when the same player hit a post.
Highworth took the lead on 14 mins when Joe Williamson curled a beauty into the keeper's top left hand corner from 18 yards and the lead was doubled with 30 mins gone when Rory Sproule turned sharply in the box and fired into the same top corner.
Almost immediately Windsor pulled 1 back through Denton after some sloppy defending on 33 mins but the home side restored their 2 goal cushion on 42 minutes with another decent finish from 12 yards by Lewis Waldon.
Lewis Waldon had a one on one chance with the keeper Sobte early on in the second period but a decent block from the visiting stopper kept the score 3-1.
Garry Aulsberry in the Highworth goal then prevented a 2nd Windsor goal when he did well to tip a shot from Denton onto and over the bar.
This was the first of several fine saves throughout the 2nd half generally dominated by the visitors with veteran Barry Hayles always a threat when given space although Ross Adams and the rest of the back four did well to limit his opportunities.
Bowles did finally beat Aulsberry on 79 minutes slotting home from the left after a decent passing move in the 18 yard box.
Highworth then held out for the 3 points and it could have been 4-2 when another Lewis Waldon break saw Sobte make another decent block.
On a pretty dismal night weather wise 94 saw this encounter with a good amount of visitors from Windsor , thanks for coming.
TONIGHT : We play Holyport at the Elms in the Supplementary Cup, 7.45 ko.
